According to Betaalvereniging Nederland, payment transactions have increased a lot over the Black Friday weekend. From Friday, November 23rd to Monday 26th, the popular payment method iDeal and normal debit cards were used a lot more. The number of iDeal transactions rose 72% compared to normal. For debit cards, the increase was 16%.
In total, a turnover of about 2.35 billion euro has been realised. Almost 58 million transactions were realised during the weekend on payment terminals, worth more than 1.5 billion. iDeal payments took place more than 10 million times, for about 850 million euro. Compared to 2017, the number of transactions during the Black Friday and Cyber Monday period increased as well. iDeal noted 38% more payments on a year-on-year base. On Black Friday itself, the number of transactions was even a quarter higher than this usual year-on-year growth.
