Amazon has announced several layoffs in its Prime Video, MGM Studios, Twitch, and Audible divisions, now the company has also announced layoffs in its Buy with Prime division in a new move that 'will affect less than 5%' - claims Amazon - of the workforce in this section, as CNBC reports.

\n\n\n\n

\"We regularly review the structure of our teams and make adjustments based on business needs and, after a recent review, we have made the difficult decision to eliminate a small number of functions in our Buy with Prime team,\" explained an Amazon spokesperson in statements to the aforementioned media, reiterating that \"Buy with Prime remains a priority for Amazon\" and that the company plans to continue investing \"significant resources\" to its development.

\n\n\n\n

These layoffs are in addition to those that Amazon will also undertake in its Prime Video and MGM Studios divisions, as communicated a few days ago by Mike Hopkins, leader of both divisions, through an email to workers informing them of the job cuts. In the note, Hopkins explained that the company had decided to \"prioritize our investments for the long-term success of our business\".

Amazon layoffs affecting Twitch

\n\n\n\n

The company also announced layoffs at Twitch, its live-streaming unit, which will cut 500 jobs. In a statement, Twitch CEO Dan Clancy stressed that the cuts are being made amid an effort to \"right-size our company and align headcount with the current size of the business.\"

\n\n\n\n

The cuts have also affected its Audible division. As advanced by Business Insider, citing an email from Audible's own CEO, Bod Carrigan, the company has laid off 5% of the workforce in its audiobook and podcast division. \"I want you to know that we are making these decisions to strengthen our business for the long term,\" Bob Carrigan noted in the email sent to employees.

\n\n\n\n

These layoffs are in addition to the spate of employee terminations that took place at the end of 2022 and during 2023 when the company led by Andy Jassy cut more than 27,000 jobs in almost all of its areas.
