\"DHLDHL Parcel has opened a new e-commerce sorting centre in Zaltbommel, the Netherlands. According to the logistic service provider, it is the largest and greenest package sorting center of the Benelux. It will process up to half a million packages a day.

Packages can be sorted to 240 locations. Amongst these locations are 140 depots and 21 sorting centres of DHL in the Benelux and European destinations. This allows webshops to use a later cut off time. The new parcel center allows webshops to deliver orders before 10 am in the sorting center to realise a same-day delivery in the Netherlands.

According to DHL Netherlands, the growth of online shopping and the business segment makes the expansion inevitable. The service provider is also decreasing its CO2 footprint due to the use of efficient and modern equipment. 11.000 solar panels on the roof of the new location and an ecological garden of 4.000m2 are some of the sustainable measures.

Spokesman Wouter van Benten highlights that the expansion is part of a multi-year investment plan. \"We invest to facilitate our growth and expand our service level. Digitalisation plays an important role. Our new installations help to make our processes more sustainable on top of all that.\" Aside from new buildings, DHL will invest in the fleet, adding 300 electrical vans that suit the needs of consumers in residential areas
