According to Der Spiegel, the very first multi-label parcel shop in Germany opened its doors in Hamburg. Here, DPD, GLS, Hermes, and UPS are united in a parcel shop where consumers can pick up or drop off their packages for any of these logistics companies. One of the most important aims of the shop is to reduce the traffic to pick-up points in the city and to reduce pollution. The store has officially been opened after a one-year pilot.
The idea behind the multi-label parcel shop is that online shoppers have an easier point of contact. The pilot showed that there is a lot of interest for this kind of multi-pick-up and drop-off points. The one-year test run showed an increase in customer frequency from 230 packages to 1500 packages per month. Total capacity is even much larger.
