Amsterdam-based Wonderful has secured $150 million in Series B funding, reaching a valuation of around $2 billion and confirming its position as one of Europe’s fastest-growing AI startups.

The round was led by Insight Partners, with participation from major global investors including Index Ventures, IVP, Bessemer Venture Partners, and Vine Ventures.

While the company is relatively young—founded in 2025—it has already raised approximately $286 million in total funding, scaling rapidly across global markets.

What Wonderful actually does

From AI hype to real enterprise deployment

Wonderful operates an enterprise AI agent platform designed to automate complex workflows, particularly in customer-facing and operational processes.

Its core offering includes:

AI agents handling customer service across voice, chat, and email

Automation of internal processes like IT support, onboarding, and compliance

A model-agnostic architecture, selecting the best AI model per use case

This is a crucial distinction. Instead of building a single AI model, Wonderful focuses on orchestrating multiple models and embedding them into real business environments.

The key differentiator: “hyper-local AI”

Why this matters for Europe

One of Wonderful’s most important innovations is its “hyper-local deployment model”.

Rather than offering a one-size-fits-all AI solution, the company:

Deploys teams directly inside client organizations

Adapts AI systems to local languages, regulations, and cultural nuances

Operates across 30+ countries worldwide

This is particularly relevant in Europe, where:

Markets are fragmented

Regulations differ country by country

Multilingual customer interactions are the norm

Why investors are betting big

The shift from AI experimentation to execution

The funding reflects a broader market shift:

Enterprises are moving from testing AI to deploying it at scale

Wonderful is positioned at the center of this transition because it solves one of the biggest problems in AI adoption:

AI demos are easy

Production deployment is hard

Challenges include:

Integration with legacy systems

Regulatory compliance

Language localization

Reliability in real-world scenarios

Wonderful’s approach directly targets this “execution gap”.

Direct implications for e-commerce and logistics

Although Wonderful is not a logistics company, its impact on the sector is significant.

Customer experience automation

E-commerce companies can use AI agents to:

Handle returns, refunds, and delivery queries

Provide 24/7 multilingual support

Reduce customer service costs

This is especially valuable for cross-border e-commerce, where language and time zones create friction.

Operations and back-office efficiency

In logistics and supply chain environments, AI agents can:

Automate shipment tracking communications

Manage exceptions and delays

Support warehouse and IT workflows

This reduces operational overhead and improves responsiveness.

Localization at scale

For companies operating across Europe, Wonderful’s model enables:

Market-specific customer interactions

Compliance with local regulations

Better conversion rates in non-English markets

This is a major advantage in regions where US-centric AI tools often struggle.

Growth trajectory and expansion plans

Wonderful’s expansion is aggressive:

Active in 30+ global markets

Workforce expected to grow from ~350 to ~900 employees

Increasing focus on industries like telecom, finance, manufacturing, and healthcare

Revenue is already in the tens of millions, with growing demand for broader enterprise use cases beyond customer support.

Competitive landscape

Wonderful operates in a highly competitive space that includes:

AI customer support platforms

Enterprise automation tools

Emerging AI agent startups

However, its differentiation lies in:

Execution-first approach

Global deployment capability

Localization strategy

Many competitors focus on English-speaking markets, while Wonderful is explicitly targeting global, multilingual enterprises.

What this signals for the European tech ecosystem

Europe is building applied AI leaders

Wonderful’s funding highlights an important trend:

Europe is not just producing AI research

It is now building commercial AI platforms at scale

This aligns with broader investment patterns favoring:

Infrastructure-heavy startups

Enterprise-focused AI

Real-world deployment capabilities

The $150M funding round for Wonderful is more than just another AI investment. It signals a shift toward practical, deployable AI systems that solve real operational challenges.

For e-commerce and logistics companies, the implications are clear:

AI is moving from experimentation to core infrastructure

Localization and execution are becoming competitive advantages

Automation of customer and operational workflows will accelerate rapidly

Wonderful represents a new category of European startups:
AI companies built not just to innovate—but to operationalize AI at scale.

Dutch online sales reached over 33.3 billion euros in 2022. This represents a 9% increase year over year in comparison with 2021. Still, even when the gross sales volume increased, the actual number of transactions decreased by 5%.

🔥Do you want to know more about international commerce and e-commerce and get all the tips and news that might give your company an edge? Subscribe to Cross-Border Magazine and get your digital copy now for free!🔥

Meaning Dutch consumers bought fewer products but with a higher price tag. The increase per price tag is close to 15% more.

In 2021, Dutch buyers spent 30.6 billion euros on online stores, and the total number of online purchases then was 366 million. Last year, this amount dropped to 347 million. Just like in 2021, 97 % of the population buys online.

The numbers come from the latest Thuiswinkel Market Monitor from the Dutch e-commerce association Thuiswinkel.org.

The report explains that the number of online purchases and spending on services increased in 2022 with 49% and 54%, respectively, while it decreased for products - a decrease of 10% and 7% %, respectively - which clearly indicates that the Dutch e-commerce market is moving towards a more service-oriented scenario.

More Cross Border spending

Alongside other key findings in the report, the number of cross-border purchases decreased by 5%compared to 2021. However, the total spending on these purchases increased by 20%.

This is mainly caused by the growth in spending in Package Travel (up 164%) and Flight tickets and Accommodation (up 74%), mainly purchased in the United States, Austria, Great Britain, and Germany.

Mobile is growing as an option for Dutch online sales

Last year, the number of online purchases made using a smartphone increased from 29% to 33%. “If we look at the growth of smartphone use over the past five years, we see a clearer picture: in 2017, only 13% of online purchases were made with the smartphone. Five years later, smartphone use has thus increased two and a half times.”

As in 2021, 70% of online purchases last year were paid for with iDeal. As many as 96% of online shoppers used this payment method at least once in the past year. The number of consumers using credit cards rose from 28% to 31%. At the same time, Riverty actually shows a decrease in the number of users (from 23% to 19%).

This is a growth of 13 percent compared to the situation one year before. The Dutch made a total of 201 million online purchases last year, 17 percent more than in 2016. This is what the Dutch e-commerce association Thuiswinkel.org concluded in their annual research 'the Thuiswinkel Markt Monitor'. About 56 percent of the amount of money that was spent online last year, was for the purchases of products. As the amount of online purchases is growing, so is the share of total retail industry in the Netherlands. Currently, e-commerce accounts for 9.7 percent of the total retail industry.

In 2017, the popular product categories are Health & Beauty, Food/Nearfood and Home & Garden. They saw the biggest increase in spendings online. The Dutch spent a significant part of their online purchases in the last quarter of the year, which is not much of a surprise with national holidays like the Saint Nicholas feast, Black Friday and Christmas. On average, a purchase was of lower value than in the other quarters of the year.

Smartphones

Dutch consumers increasingly spend their money online by using a smartphone. It is the first year that the smartphone is more popular as a shopping device than the tablet. 28 percent of the online shoppers used a smartphone as shopping device in 2017. The share of purchases using a tablet saw a minor decrease.
