Google has announced the launch of its Universal Commerce Protocol (UCP), a new open standard designed to enable AI-driven buying experiences and instant checkout directly from AI interfaces such as Google Search and the Gemini app. This initiative represents a major step toward agentic commerce, a model in which AI systems do more than recommend products; they manage large parts of the purchasing process on behalf of users.

The introduction of UCP signals a structural shift in how digital commerce may function in the coming years, moving from click-based storefronts to AI-mediated transactions.

What Is the Universal Commerce Protocol

The Universal Commerce Protocol is an open, standardized framework that allows AI systems, merchant platforms, and payment providers to communicate seamlessly throughout the entire commerce lifecycle.

Its core objective is to create a shared “language” for commerce that enables AI agents to interact with merchant systems without custom, one-off integrations. Through UCP, AI assistants can access product information, check availability, manage carts, and complete transactions in a secure, controlled manner.

Rather than replacing existing e-commerce platforms, UCP is designed to sit on top of existing infrastructure, connecting AI interfaces to merchant backends in a consistent, scalable manner.

How UCP Enables AI-Driven Buying

Commerce Directly Inside AI Interfaces

With UCP, users can discover products, compare options, and complete purchases directly within AI-powered environments, such as conversational search and virtual assistants. This removes the need to navigate multiple websites, product pages, and checkout flows.

The result is a more fluid shopping experience in which intent, discovery, and purchase happen within a single interaction.

Digital Agents Managing the Purchase Flow

UCP enables AI agents to handle key stages of the transaction process, including:

Retrieving real-time product data such as price, availability, and delivery options

Creating and managing shopping carts

Initiating checkout and coordinating payment authorization

Passing confirmed orders back to merchant systems for fulfillment

This approach allows AI to act as an intermediary that executes user intent, rather than merely supporting decision-making.

Secure and Merchant-Controlled Transactions

Despite the involvement of AI agents, merchants retain control over their commerce logic. Pricing rules, inventory management, fulfillment, and customer policies continue to be governed by the merchant’s own systems.

Security and compliance are addressed through standardized transaction flows that limit exposure of sensitive customer and payment data while ensuring that merchants remain the merchant of record.

Why Universal Commerce Protocol Matters for E-Commerce

A Shift From Click Commerce to Agentic Commerce

Traditional e-commerce relies on users manually navigating digital storefronts. UCP introduces a model where AI executes commerce actions, turning shopping into an outcome of conversation and intent rather than a sequence of clicks.

This shift has implications for how brands are discovered, compared, and selected in AI-driven environments.

Lower Integration Complexity for Merchants

Historically, integrating with new platforms or assistants required custom development work. UCP standardizes these interactions, reducing technical friction and making it easier for merchants to participate in AI-driven commerce ecosystems.

This standardization can accelerate adoption across retailers of different sizes and technical maturity levels.

New Visibility Dynamics in AI-First Shopping

As AI agents increasingly mediate purchase decisions, visibility may depend less on traditional storefront optimization and more on structured, machine-readable commerce data. This introduces new strategic considerations for product data quality, availability signals, and transactional readiness.

Implications for SEO and Digital Commerce Strategy

From SEO to AI-Readable Commerce Data

While search engine optimization remains relevant, UCP highlights the growing importance of making product and transaction data accessible to AI systems. This includes clean catalogs, accurate pricing, reliable availability data, and well-defined fulfillment options.

Businesses may need to complement classic SEO with approaches focused on AI discoverability and decision support.

Changes in Attribution and Customer Relationships

When purchases happen inside AI interfaces rather than on branded websites, traditional attribution models may become less precise. Merchants will need to rethink how they track customer journeys, measure performance, and maintain direct relationships with buyers.

What Comes Next for Universal Commerce Protocol

Google plans to roll out UCP-enabled experiences gradually, starting with selected markets and retail partners. Over time, broader adoption could position UCP as a foundational layer for AI-driven commerce across multiple platforms and interfaces.

If widely adopted, the Universal Commerce Protocol could mark a turning point in e-commerce, where AI not only influences buying decisions but actively executes transactions, reshaping how consumers and businesses interact in digital markets.

Walmart and Google are actively expanding their strategic partnership to integrate advanced artificial intelligence into the retail shopping experience. Announced and detailed through multiple industry and financial reports in early 2026, the collaboration centers on embedding Walmart’s commerce capabilities directly into Google’s generative AI ecosystem, marking a decisive shift toward AI-driven, conversational shopping.

This alliance positions AI not as a support feature but as the primary interface for product discovery, recommendations, and purchasing.

Walmart AI-Powered Shopping Through Google Gemini

At the core of the partnership is Google’s generative AI assistant, Gemini. Through this integration, Gemini gains direct access to Walmart’s product catalog, including selected assortments from Sam’s Club.

Consumers can now interact with AI in natural language to:

Search for products across Walmart’s inventory

Receive context-aware recommendations

Compare prices, features, and availability

Add items to a cart and complete purchases

All of these actions can occur within a single conversational interface, reducing the friction traditionally associated with e-commerce navigation.

From Search-Based Ecommerce to Agent-Led Commerce

This collaboration reflects a broader transition from keyword-based ecommerce to what industry leaders describe as agent-led commerce. Instead of browsing pages or filtering lists, shoppers interact with an AI agent that understands intent, preferences, and context.

By linking a Walmart account to Gemini, users unlock personalization features that allow the AI to factor in purchase history, preferred brands, and recurring needs. The result is a more proactive shopping assistant that can suggest replenishments, alternatives, or complementary products in real time.

The Universal Commerce Protocol and Open AI Ecosystems

A key technical foundation of the partnership is Google’s Universal Commerce Protocol. This open standard enables AI systems to interact consistently with retailer data, including inventory status, pricing, cart management, and checkout processes.

Walmart’s adoption of this protocol aligns with its broader strategy of open AI partnerships rather than reliance on a single proprietary platform. The approach allows Walmart to integrate multiple AI providers while maintaining control over its commerce infrastructure and customer relationships.

Competitive Positioning in the AI Retail Landscape

The Walmart–Google alliance arrives amid intensifying competition in AI-powered retail. While some competitors pursue vertically integrated AI stacks, Walmart has chosen a partner-driven model that leverages best-of-breed AI technologies.

For Google, the partnership strengthens Gemini’s real-world utility by embedding transactional capabilities directly into the AI experience. This narrows the gap between generative AI assistants and full-fledged digital commerce platforms.

Market Reaction and Business Impact

Financial markets have responded positively to the announcement and subsequent details of the partnership. Analysts point to the integration as evidence of Walmart’s continued evolution from a traditional retailer into a technology-enabled commerce platform.

Beyond stock performance, the collaboration signals long-term implications for how consumers engage with brands, how retailers compete for visibility in AI-driven interfaces, and how purchasing decisions are influenced by conversational agents rather than search rankings.

What This Means for Walmart and the Future of Retail

The Walmart and Google partnership illustrates a structural shift in e-commerce:

Conversational AI becomes a primary shopping interface

Discovery, recommendation, and checkout merge into a single flow

Retailers compete for presence inside AI assistants, not just search results

Personalization moves from static algorithms to dynamic, agent-driven interaction

As AI assistants increasingly act on behalf of consumers, partnerships like this one define who controls the commerce layer of the AI economy.

By integrating Walmart’s retail ecosystem directly into Google’s generative AI platform, the two companies are redefining how digital shopping works. The partnership moves e-commerce beyond websites and apps into intelligent, conversational experiences where AI agents guide users from intent to transaction.

This alliance is not an experiment. It is a blueprint for the next generation of retail.

Google has officially begun adding advertisements to its artificial intelligence-generated search responses, marking a decisive moment in the evolution of its search business. This development marks the first formal implementation of ads within AI-generated answers, ahead of competitors such as ChatGPT, which do not yet offer a comparable advertising framework.

The ads appear at the end of AI-produced answers, following the same placement logic Google previously tested with its AI summaries. Initial reports from Greg Sterling, shared via Google Labs experiments, showed these ad insertions. Shortly after, multiple users confirmed that the ads were also visible outside Google’s experimental environment. This indicates a broader deployment that may be further along than publicly announced.

A Rollout More Advanced Than Expected

The growing presence of ads aligns with previous industry reports suggesting that the testing phase was nearing completion. According to information shared with major advertising partners, Google plans to officially launch this AI-driven advertising format in the fourth quarter of the year. The current rollout coincides precisely with that timeframe.

This strategic timing highlights Google’s intention to integrate advertising into its new conversational search experience fully. It also raises key questions about how the business model will evolve within this environment. Possibilities include expanding ads to appear in additional sections of AI responses, mirroring traditional search results, or introducing new pricing systems adapted to AI-driven interactions.

The Future of Advertising in AI-Powered Search

Google’s move introduces several potential changes to digital advertising:

Placement Evolution

Advertisers may see their ads integrated deeper into AI-generated narratives rather than simply anchored at the end of a response. This could create contextual ad experiences that differ sharply from standard search ads.

New Pricing Models

Google may experiment with alternative bidding or performance models that account for conversational engagement, user intent signals, or the depth of interaction with AI-generated content.

User Experience Considerations

As conversational interfaces become a primary way users access information, Google will need to balance monetization with user trust and clarity. Ensuring that ads remain transparent and appropriately labeled will be a critical part of this transition.

A Competitive Advantage Over ChatGPT

While OpenAI continues exploring sustainable monetization paths for ChatGPT, Google enters the space with a significant advantage: a global, mature advertising ecosystem that processes billions of queries and placements daily. This infrastructure allows Google to scale AI-integrated advertising rapidly and efficiently.

By embedding ads directly into AI search responses, Google positions itself to dominate the next era of commercial search. This move could accelerate advertiser adoption of generative AI formats and push the industry toward new standards for generating search revenue.

A Turning Point for 2025 and Beyond

Google’s integration of ads into AI search marks more than a technical update. It signals a fundamental shift in how search will be monetized in the age of generative AI. With its established advertising network and massive global reach, Google is poised to make AI-driven search a central commercial space in 2025.

As testing evolves into full-scale deployment, the industry will closely watch how users respond, how advertisers adapt, and how competitive platforms like ChatGPT shape their own monetization strategies. Google’s early lead may set the pace for the future of search advertising in an era where AI-generated interactions become the norm.

Google and PayPal have just formalized a multi-year strategic partnership to reshape digital commerce using artificial intelligence. At the heart of this collaboration is the development of new AI-driven shopping and payment experiences, deeper integration of PayPal’s payments tools into Google’s ecosystem, and the rollout of Agent Payments Protocol (AP2) — an open standard for enabling AI agents to transact on users’ behalf in a secure, transparent way.

Key Elements of the Partnership

Here are the leading pillars of what Google & PayPal are doing, based on the most recent public disclosures:

Initiative

What It Entails

Why It Matters

Agentic Shopping & Commerce Experiences

Together, they will build AI-driven shopping tools where agents help find, compare, and purchase products.

This moves digital commerce from human-centric interactions to ones where AI can do more of the heavy lifting — better personalization, efficiency, and perhaps new UX models.

Agent Payments Protocol (AP2)

This gives merchants and users simpler, smoother payment flows, less friction, and better consistency across Google’s many services. It also offers PayPal broader reach.

It aims to solve trust and safety issues: how do you know an AI acted with your permission? How do you avoid unintended or fraudulent purchases? AP2 is foundational for large-scale agentic commerce.

Integration of PayPal Tools into Google Products

PayPal branded checkout, Hyperwallet, PayPal Payouts, and more will be embedded in Google platforms such as Google Play, Google Ads, and Google Cloud.

This gives merchants and users simpler, smoother payment flows, less friction, and better consistency across Google’s many services. It also offers PayPal a broader reach.

Expanded Payment Processing Role

PayPal will act as a key payment provider for card payments in Google Ads, Google Cloud, and Google Play.

It’s a way for PayPal to secure a more stable and large-volume role in Google’s commerce ecosystem, not just checkout tools but core transaction-handling.

Cloud Infrastructure & AI / Security Enhancements

PayPal will migrate parts of its backend and infrastructure to Google Cloud. It will use Google’s AI tools in fraud detection and personalization to enhance performance and security.

This both upgrades PayPal’s technology stack and ensures the partnership is not just superficial but built “from the inside” to scale.

Google & PayPal New Developments & Context

These are recent developments and context that sharpen the picture:

Agent Payments Protocol Public Launch
In September 2025, Google published the AP2 specification. It is now a public standard with reference implementation available, and over 60 companies have already pledged support.

Industry Momentum
Major players in payments and commerce, such as Mastercard, Adyen, American Express, Etsy, Revolut, and Coinbase, are backing AP2. That gives credibility and increases the odds that this standard will be widely adopted.

Competitive & Regulatory Landscape
Other firms, from banks to fintechs, are exploring AI-mediated commerce. The standardization effort is, in part, a competitive move to define how “agentic commerce” will work. At the same time, regulators will likely examine liability, data privacy, and fraud management closely, areas AP2 seeks to address with mandates and verifiable credentials.

Financial & Stock Market Reactions
Analysts see the deal as promising but stress that agentic commerce may take time to generate significant revenues. PayPal’s stock has seen modest positive movement since the announcement.

What’s Still Unclear / Potential Challenges for Google & PayPal

Which “agentic shopping experiences” will reach consumers first — such as virtual assistants or autonomous procurement — is not yet clear.

How user consent, privacy, and liability will be managed in practice remains an open question, especially across different jurisdictions.

Merchant adoption may vary: large enterprises will likely move faster, but small merchants could face integration challenges.

Consumer trust is crucial. Users must feel confident letting AI agents transact on their behalf, with transparency and control to reverse mistakes if needed.

Implications of the Google & PayPal alliance: What This Means for Stakeholders

For Consumers: More convenience, personalization, and streamlined checkout experiences. At the same time, new responsibilities in understanding and managing permissions for AI agents.

For Merchants: Opportunities to sell through AI-assisted channels and reduce cart abandonment. However, new technical and compliance requirements will need to be met.

For Developers / Tech Vendors: AP2 creates opportunities to build SDKs, frameworks, and services that enable secure agent-led transactions.

For Regulators & Policy Makers: This evolution in commerce will require oversight on consumer protection, disclosure, liability, and data privacy.

The Google-PayPal partnership is more than just embedding PayPal into more of Google's products. It signals a push toward a new paradigm: agentic commerce, where AI agents will increasingly act on users’ behalf, enabled by open, secure, and verifiable protocols like AP2. If successful, this could reshape how consumers shop, how merchants sell, and how payments are processed.

The strategy is ambitious, and the potential rewards are high — but there are technical, regulatory, and trust hurdles to overcome. Much will depend on how well the industry adopts AP2 and how quickly consumer-facing agentic applications are rolled out.

Google has unveiled the Agent Payments Protocol (AP2), an open standard developed in collaboration with more than 60 technology and payments companies. AP2 is intended to simplify and secure transactions carried out by AI agents—i.e. software agents acting on behalf of users—by building a reliable protocol that ensures merchants, payment providers, and users can act with confidence, especially in scenarios where a human is not directly clicking “Buy.”

Why AP2 Is Needed

With the rise of AI agents handling commerce—such as automated shopping assistants, task delegators, or bots that act immediately when certain conditions are met—the traditional assumption that a human is always present to initiate a transaction is breaking down. This presents at least three core challenges:

Authorization: proving that the user has explicitly given the agent the authority to make a particular purchase.

Authenticity: ensuring that what the agent is buying truly reflects the user’s intent (items, price, timing) rather than a misunderstanding or mistake.

Accountability: when something goes wrong—fraud, mistaken purchase, etc.—identifying who is responsible, and having clear evidence to support any dispute or remediation.

Google sees AP2 as an extension of earlier protocols such as Model Context Protocol (MCP) and Agent2Agent (A2A), which lay the groundwork for agent interoperability and context sharing. AP2 is meant to handle the payments piece in a unified, payment-method-agnostic way.

How AP2 Works: Mandates & Verifiable Credentials

A key building block of AP2 is the use of Mandates, which are cryptographically signed, tamper-proof digital contracts (or credentials) that serve as verifiable proof of a user’s instructions. These mandates are implemented with what Google refers to as verifiable credentials (VCs).

There are two main workflows:

Scenario

What happens

Key elements

Human-present, real-time purchases

The user interacts with the agent, specifying what to search for (e.g. “find me white running shoes”). This becomes the Intent Mandate. When the agent produces a shopping cart, the user approves via a Cart Mandate. That locks the exact items, price, etc.

Intent Mandate + Cart Mandate; audit trail from intent → cart → payment.

Delegated or human-not-present tasks

The user provides a detailed Intent Mandate up front: defining conditions like price limits, timing, or other constraints (e.g. “buy this ticket when it goes on sale and under €150”). Once conditions are satisfied, the agent can generate the Cart Mandate automatically.

The Intent Mandate must be more detailed; the Cart Mandate arises on meeting the rules.

In both cases, the chain of mandates plus the cryptographic signatures forms a non-repudiable audit trail—i.e., you can later demonstrate who authorized what, that the agent followed the user’s intent, and what was approved for payment. This supports authentication, identity, risk management, fraud detection, and accountability.

Payment Types & Ecosystem Support

AP2 is payment-agnostic; it is designed to work with a wide range of methods, including credit and debit cards, real-time bank transfers, stablecoins, and other crypto-based payments.

More than 60 organizations are already supporting or working with AP2. These include major payment networks, card issuers, fintechs, merchants, and technology companies such as Mastercard, American Express, PayPal, Coinbase, Etsy, and Revolut.

What This Means for Merchants, Users & Developers

Benefits:

Users can delegate tasks to AI agents more confidently, knowing there is a standard that ensures they remain in control and that their intent is preserved.

Merchants and payment processors gain clarity in verifying whether transactions initiated by agents are properly authorized, reducing risk and potential liability.

Developers can build agents, marketplaces, and experiences using a shared protocol, reducing fragmentation and compatibility issues.

The audit trail created by mandates can aid in fraud prevention and dispute resolution.

Challenges & Considerations:

Adoption: the protocol still needs broad implementation across platforms to become effective.

Regulatory, privacy, and identity verification implications: ensuring that mandates, credentials, and user data are managed in compliance with rules will be crucial.

UX design: making the mandate process smooth for users is essential; too much friction may discourage use.

Edge cases: complex transactions, dynamic pricing, usage-based services, or interactions among multiple agents and merchants may pose implementation complexities.

The Road Ahead for AP2

Google encourages collaboration; the AP2 specification is open and designed to evolve via community input, including standards bodies.

The protocol builds on previous agentic standards (A2A, MCP) to support more advanced commerce models, for example:

Automated purchase triggers (monitoring stock or price and buying when conditions are met)

Coordinated multi-part purchases (e.g. booking flight + hotel) with consistent mandates across agents/merchants

New business models enabled by agentic commerce (subscription-like tasks, proactive purchasing)

As more merchants, payment providers, fintechs, and regulators engage, AP2 could become a foundational layer for “agentic commerce.”

Comparison to Related Protocols

Model Context Protocol (MCP): focuses on context sharing and preserving user intention across models and agents. AP2 extends it by adding the payments and authorization dimension.

Agent2Agent (A2A) focuses on interoperability among agents. AP2 considers how these agents can securely handle payments, tied back to user intent.

Agent Payments Protocol (AP2) seeks to answer fundamental trust questions raised by AI agents acting on our behalf in commerce: when a purchase is made, who authorized it? Is the buying faithful to the user's expectations? If something goes wrong, who is accountable?

By introducing mandates, cryptographic credentials, and a standardized, payment-agnostic framework, Google and its partners are laying the groundwork for safer, more reliable agentic transactions. While real-world rollout and adoption will take time, AP2 could become a significant pillar of how commerce works in an era when “pressing the buy button” may increasingly be done by software rather than by us.

In a surprising move that is reshaping the digital advertising landscape, Amazon has withdrawn from participating in Google Shopping ads auctions. This change, which began in mid-July 2025, resulted in Amazon's impression share dropping from nearly 70% to virtually zero overnight. The decision has significant implications for the broader e-commerce market, advertising strategies, and competitive dynamics among major online retailers.

What Are Google Shopping Ads?

Google Shopping ads are a form of paid product listing that appear in search results when users search for specific products. These ads showcase product images, prices, seller names, and more, making them a powerful tool for driving conversions.

Amazon was one of the largest buyers of Google Shopping ads in the United States, using the platform to promote a vast range of products through its Seller Central and Vendor Central programs. Its exit from the auction represents a massive shift in the paid search ecosystem.

Why Did Amazon Pull Out?

While Amazon has not issued an official statement, industry experts point to several likely reasons:

Increased Focus on First-Party Channels

Amazon has been investing heavily in its own ad network and on-site advertising tools. Redirecting budget to its internal ecosystem may provide better margins and greater control over customer data.

Regulatory and Privacy Concerns

With growing scrutiny around third-party cookies and user tracking, Amazon may be looking to avoid further exposure by limiting its dependence on external ad networks like Google's.

Rising Cost of Advertising

The cost-per-click (CPC) in Google Shopping ads has been steadily rising. For a company managing millions of SKUs, the return on ad spend (ROAS) may have become unsustainable.

Impact on the E-commerce Ecosystem

More Room for Competitors

Amazon’s absence has opened the door for other retailers to gain visibility. Brands like Walmart, Target, Shein, and Temu have already increased their share in the auction, benefiting from lower competition and reduced CPC rates.

Opportunity for Direct-to-Consumer Brands

Smaller retailers and DTC brands are now able to compete more effectively for valuable search traffic. This shift may lead to greater diversity in product offerings visible on Google Shopping.

Agencies and Advertisers Rethink Strategy

Marketing agencies managing retail media budgets are revisiting campaign strategies, rebalancing spend across channels, and advising clients on how to fill the void left by Amazon.

Strategic Implications for Google

Amazon’s departure is a double-edged sword for Google. While other advertisers may temporarily benefit from lower costs, Google loses a major ad spender. In the long term, the platform may need to offer new incentives or redesign its product to maintain volume and relevance in retail search.

Consumers may begin to notice a broader mix of retailers and new product brands in their Google Shopping results. This could lead to more competitive pricing, alternative product options, and a wider variety of sellers than when Amazon dominated the space.

Amazon’s withdrawal from Google Shopping ads marks a pivotal moment in e-commerce advertising. While the full consequences will unfold over the coming months, it's clear this move is reshaping competitive dynamics in online retail. Retailers, marketers, and platforms alike will need to adapt quickly to stay ahead in this rapidly evolving landscape.

Google has unveiled Doppl, a next-generation AI-driven app by Google Labs that enables users to see how outfits look on a digital version of themselves. Available now on iOS and Android in the United States, Doppl combines personal style exploration with cutting-edge generative AI technology.

What Is Doppl? How It Works

Doppl lets you upload a full‑body photo to create a personalized digital avatar. You can upload outfit images or screenshots—whether from online stores, thrift shops, social feeds, or friends’ looks—and Doppl uses AI to overlay those garments onto your avatar, generating both static visuals and animated videos to show how they move.

Users can then:

Save favorite looks

Mix and match outfits

Share looks across social media

Main Features of Google Doppl

Feature

Description

Platform Availability

iOS and Android (United States only)

Technology Base

Generative AI from Google Labs

User Input

Full-body photo + clothing images/screenshots

Virtual Try-On

Personalized avatar with overlaid outfits

AI Video Previews

Animated previews to simulate outfit movement

Clothing Sources

Screenshots, store photos, social media images

Garment Types Supported

Tops, bottoms, dresses

Unsupported Items

Shoes, lingerie, accessories, sheer or cultural garments, costumes

Sharing Options

Save looks, share results with others

Privacy Measures

Age 18+, SynthID watermarks, account login required

Limitations

May include visual glitches or fit inaccuracies

Development Stage

Experimental (Google Labs); feedback encouraged

International Availability

U.S. only (global rollout planned, no timeline announced)

Realistic Movement: Beyond Static Images

What truly sets Doppl apart is its ability to produce AI-generated videos, offering a dynamic preview of how clothes drape and shift in motion—beyond simple static try-ons.

Evolution from Google Shopping Try-Ons to Doppl

Doppl builds on previous try-on features launched via Google Shopping, which showcased apparel on models with varied body types. With Doppl, the experience shifts to the individual user, using their actual image as the foundation for styling.

“We hope Doppl helps you explore your style in new and exciting ways,” Google noted in its launch announcement.

Technical Challenges and User Feedback

While early users have praised Doppl’s immersive interface, reviewers also noted occasional issues:

Misaligned garments

Floating or warped visuals

Inconsistent fabric details

Google acknowledges these as part of the app’s experimental nature and urges users to report bugs through the in-app feedback system.

Doppl: A Glimpse into the Future of AI and Fashion

With Doppl, Google aims to:

Enhance confidence in online fashion purchases

Reduce return rates from ill-fitting or misrepresented items

Gather valuable data for future AI-driven commerce tools

Although still in beta, Doppl clearly signals Google’s ambition to integrate AI more deeply into consumer lifestyle experiences.

Doppl marks a bold step in AI-powered, personalized fashion tech. By blending user avatars, AI-generated imagery, and dynamic previews, Google is transforming virtual try-ons into a truly immersive experience. While still experimental, Doppl sets the stage for a future of shopping where your style becomes central, interactive, and intuitive—no dressing room required.

Google is revolutionizing visual search by integrating Google Lens into YouTube Shorts, offering marketers and content creators innovative ways to enhance visibility and engagement.

Google Lens Integration with YouTube Shorts

As of late May 2025, Google Lens has been integrated into YouTube Shorts, allowing users to interact with video content in unprecedented ways. Viewers can pause a Short, tap the "Lens" icon, and select objects, text, or landmarks within the video to learn more about them. This feature supports real-time translation, object identification, and location insights, all displayed seamlessly above the video content.

Key Features:

Interactive Search: Users can highlight elements within a Short to initiate a search.

Real-Time Translation: Translate text within videos instantly.

Object & Landmark Identification: Recognize products, animals, plants, and landmarks.

AI Overviews: Receive AI-generated summaries and information about selected items.

However, it's important to note that Shorts containing affiliate tags or paid promotions are excluded from Lens functionality.

Implications for SEO and Content Strategy

The fusion of Google Lens with YouTube Shorts signifies a shift towards visual-first SEO strategies. Marketers should consider the following:

Enhanced Visual Content: High-quality, clear visuals are more likely to be recognized and favored by Google Lens.

Descriptive Alt Text: Accurate and descriptive alt text can improve the discoverability of visual content.

Structured Data Markup: Implementing schema markup helps search engines understand and index visual content effectively.

Mobile Optimization: Ensure content is optimized for mobile viewing, as Google Lens is primarily used on mobile devices.

By adapting to these strategies, businesses can increase their visibility in visual search results and stay ahead in the evolving SEO landscape.

The Rise of Visual Search

Visual search is becoming increasingly prevalent, with Google Lens handling over 20 billion visual searches monthly. The integration with YouTube Shorts amplifies this trend, providing users with more interactive and engaging search experiences.

Integrating Google Lens into YouTube Shorts marks a significant advancement in visual search capabilities. This presents new opportunities for marketers and content creators to enhance SEO strategies by focusing on high-quality visual content and mobile optimization. Embracing these changes will be crucial for staying competitive in the digital landscape.

At Google Marketing Live 2025, the tech giant unveiled a bold vision for the future of digital advertising—one powered by artificial intelligence (AI). From reimagining search with contextual ads to AI-driven assistants in campaign management, Google is reshaping the marketing landscape with tools designed for efficiency, personalization, and scale.

AI Mode: The Future of Search Is Conversational and Commercial

One of the most significant announcements was the launch of AI Mode, a new feature in Google Search that delivers conversational, context-rich answers using generative AI. Already live in the United States and poised for international rollout, including Spain, this evolution positions the search engine as a closed-loop environment where users can resolve their queries without leaving the platform.

With AI Overviews, users now receive summaries, helpful links, and—most notably—contextually integrated ads. This marks a major strategic shift: ads are no longer interruptions but are embedded organically within answers. For instance, a search about building a website for an SME could return ads for web design tools at just the right moment in the decision-making process.

Ads in AI Overviews: A Sustainable Business Model

Previously, AI Overviews included minimal advertising, raising concerns about monetization. Google has confirmed that relevant ads will appear across mobile and desktop whenever appropriate to the query. Existing campaigns, such as Performance Max and Search with broad match, are automatically compatible with this new system.

"Ask any question and get an AI-powered answer. When appropriate, ads may appear below," Google explained during the event.

This new ad integration strategy enhances user experience and allows advertisers to reach high-intent audiences more effectively.

Better Campaigns with AI Agents in Google Ads?

With the global expansion of AI agents in Google Ads and Analytics, Google is doubling on automation. These intelligent assistants simplify complex workflows, from campaign creation to real-time reporting, offering innovative suggestions based on up-to-the-minute data.

Features include:

Automatic ad group creation

Visualized trends for better decision-making

Custom recommendations to enhance performance

Asset Studio: Creative Automation with Google Veo and Image Models

The new Asset Studio, now available globally in English, enables marketers to generate high-impact visual assets using Google's Veo (video) and Image models. Advertisers can produce content tailored to their brand with just a few clicks.

Additionally, Product Studio’s “Generated for you” feature can now recommend full campaigns, product discounts, and brand-consistent images—dramatically reducing the time needed for creative development.

Revolutionizing Bidding with AI

The rollout of Smart Bidding Exploration, the most significant update to Google’s auction strategies in a decade, leverages AI to identify non-obvious search queries that can lead to up to 19% conversion increases.

At the same time, AI Max for Search Campaigns is already delivering results, with advertisers seeing an average 14% increase in conversions, rising to 27% for exact match keywords.

Measurement, Privacy, and AI-Driven Guidance

Google also emphasized its commitment to data-driven measurement and privacy:

Data Manager: A centralized hub for managing first-party data

Upgrades to Google Analytics for multichannel ROI tracking

Marketing Advisor, an AI assistant launching in Chrome (U.S. only in 2025), to help with tagging, troubleshooting, and identifying campaign opportunities

Google's 2025 updates signal a paradigm shift in digital marketing, where AI is no longer an enhancement but the engine driving strategy, creativity, and performance. Whether through AI-powered search ads, automated content generation, or smarter bidding, advertisers now have unprecedented tools to engage consumers with relevance and precision.

Google has announced the launch of Carbon Footprint for its Google Ads. This tool provides advertisers with reports based on their data, allowing them to measure the carbon emissions generated by their advertising campaigns with greater precision. These analyses offer specific estimates based on each account's segmentation, media mix, and auction dynamics.

The information requirements on emissions that have come into force in the EU and similar requirements in Australia, Mexico, and Brazil require resorting to a more advanced (data-driven) approach. This way, companies' emissions, including those generated by marketing activities, are measured.

Google New ‘Carbon Footprint’ Tool

Carbon Footprint for Google Ads provides comprehensive reports of these CO2 emissions. The Greenhouse Gas Protocol and the Global Media Sustainability Framework prepare them. Specifically, it offers detailed breakdowns of scope 1 and scope 2 emissions (which include both localized market emissions and those associated with the company's location) and scope 3 emissions (which are assigned at the level of individual accounts).

“Carbon Footprint for Google Ads is part of a broad initiative to provide our partners with carbon emissions data. And, of course, there is still a lot to be done. That's why we look forward to continuing to work with advertisers to help them better understand their impact and ease the transition to a more sustainable future,” says Adam Elman, Google's Chief Sustainability Officer.

Google uses Ads data to calculate carbon footprint

This new Google Ads tool uses the advertisers' data. Its formulas are activity-based and consider the energy consumption of the elements used and information about activity monitoring from Google's infrastructure. Thanks to this level of detail, marketers can better measure their carbon footprint and identify areas for improvement.

This launch reflects, once again, Google's long-term commitment to sustainability. It is also part of the company's goal of using carbon-free energy 24 hours a day, seven days a week. It aims to achieve net zero emissions by 2030 in its operations and across the entire value chain. “Shared” emissions are calculated using Google's data. In this way, the information on advertiser emissions also reflects the efficiency of Google's data centers and its commitment to purchasing clean energy.

The development of Carbon Footprint for Google Ads has been a collaborative effort. Contributions have come from advertisers, industry associations, and agencies, who share a common concern for the environmental impact of advertising. Among the first companies to use these reports are names such as L'Oréal, Carwow, Giffgaff, and LVMH.

For the moment, Carbon Footprint for Google Ads is available worldwide to a select few large advertisers upon request. It will eventually open up to a wider user base. Eligible advertisers can request access to their carbon footprint reports through their account managers.
