Twitter's CEO unveiled the social network's new logo; a white X on a black background, which will replace the familiar little blue bird.

In a tweet published this Monday morning, Linda Yaccarino expressed that "Here's the X! Let's do this.

The tweets or trills will also be replaced, according to platform owner Elon Musk, and the posts will be called "x's".

The billionaire entrepreneur changed the photo on his profile with the new logo and added "X.com" to his Twitter bio.

Musk plan is to create a "super app" called "X." It's his vision for a new kind of social networking platform that he's been mentioning for months. This “super apps” are a common thing in Asia and Musk sees them as the evolution of Twitter and a future global standard.

Twitter super app

Elon’s so-called super-app will be something akin to China's WeChat. For now, there's no American or European equivalent to such an app, but industry experts imagine an app that encompasses basically anything a person wants to do online: from chatting, to geolocalization, to games, shopping, and even payments.

Twitter already lets users engage in live audio conversations, send longer text messages and broadcast video, such as the new show former Fox News host Tucker Carlson recently launched on the platform. If Twitter's push into paid subscriptions is successful, it could eventually expand into sharing some subscription revenue with users.

"In theory, they can become a more mainstream version of Patreon or other similar platforms," Ahene said. "Whether they succeed remains to be seen. It's not the reason people go to Twitter today, so to reposition the company … would take significant investment and time with what's really a skeleton team."

Meta, the parent company of Facebook and Instagram, is in the early stages of developing its decentralized social network based on text posts. The company does not want to lose ground and is looking to wrest the throne from Twitter. Meta sources have confirmed this to Platformer, who comment that they do not yet have a launch date.

🔥Do you want to know more about international commerce and e-commerce and get all the tips and news that might give your company an edge? Subscribe to Cross-Border Magazine and get your digital copy now for free!🔥

Although they do not have many more details about the project, the person responsible for carrying it out will be Adam Mosseri, CEO of Instagram, and very active on social networks. The highlight of the platform is decentralization. What does it mean that the web will be decentralized? Users will be able to configure and set specific rules for using moderation.

A decentralized network… to rule them all?

Meta's goal is that the new social network can be accessed with Instagram credentials. To this end, the company's legal teams are working to resolve potential conflicts in terms of privacy they may have.

Thus, they are exploring a decentralized standalone social network for text sharing. There is an opportunity for a separate space where content creators and the public can share news about their interests. On the one hand, it would have similarities to Twitter, although the operation would be more like Mastodon.

For Meta, it is an excellent time to enter this territory of short text messages, which so far is dominated by Twitter. Although we will have to wait and see to what extent Meta will get involved in this social network.

Twitter problems seem to have no end…

Twitter problems keep rising and piling over and over. Last March 6, 2023, we witnessed a serious Twitter crash that lasted for quite some time and did not seem to have a clear explanation for its collapse, not even for Elon Musk; beyond that, it had some API relation.

Those affected were reminded of the good old days of the social network with its Fail Whale, only this time; the failures came in the most random ways.

All this is happening due to a combination of Elen Musk's apparent poor managerial control of the brand and the company, but also due to what many experts have already described as a massive revolt against Musk's vision of Twitter.

In fact a report from The Verge, with information from data provided by anonymous employees aware of the incident, details the depth and delicacy of Musk's mass firings for the stability of Twitter by claiming that a single discontent employee did the crash. This programer was directly impacted by Elon’s recent round of layoffs.

To seek out new advertisers, Twitter has launched three new ad-targeting options, including a new 'Conversions' objective that the social network announced last August.

Previously, Twitter advertisers could optimize campaigns to focus on clicks, site visits, and conversions in the broader sense of the objective. The update allows brands to further select - inside the Conversions tab - potential users' profiles depending on their intended action.

🔥Do you want to know more about international commerce and e-commerce, and also get all the tips and news that might give your company an edge? Subscribe to Cross-Border Magazine and get your digital copy now for free!🔥

As detailed by the social network in a blog post, the first update concerns the enhancement of the 'Conversions' tab. Now, advertisers can target their ads to users most likely to respond.

In a statement, Twitter explained that instead of trying to reach targets who click on an ad, advertisers would be able to broaden their search to people who are likely to take action. Several options are available: add to cart, view product, buy, register contact information and subscribe.

Twitter ad-targeting with Dynamic Products

The second major update launched by Twitter is 'Dynamic Product Ads'. This new feature allows advertisers to present the most relevant product to the customer at the right time. This option is an improvement on the previous version that has been around since 2016, as it optimizes ad performance by integrating a more confidential approach to protecting user data.

Finally, the social network has also launched a 'New Ad Collection.' This new format allows advertisers to share the main image with smaller thumbnails underneath. "The main image remains static, while people can navigate through the thumbnails via horizontal scrolling. When tapped, each image can take consumers to a different landing page," the social network explained.

Twitter goes ‘live”

Twitter CEO Elon Musk, on Saturday, added a new feature, 'live tweeting,' and now it is active on the platform.

Author Matt Taibbi becomes the first user to use this new feature with his cryptic tweet "Thread: THE TWITTER FILES."

His tweet also added that the Twitter Files tell a fantastic story from the inside of the world’s largest and most influential social media sites. He says that it is a Frankensteinian tale of human-made mechanisms which are grown out of designer control.

The ‘live tweeting’ feature used for the “THE TWITTER FILES” allows any user to tweet while an event is going on ‘live’ on Twitter. You can add your tweet thread in between the threads of the ‘live’ event and can get views and become viral using the follower base of the organization or influencer - the account - that launched the ‘live’ event.

Google crashes after its data center in Iowa, US explodes. So far, Google has not officially explained what exactly happened, but a rumour has been circulating that the explosion was an accident involving three technicians that tried to manipulate a component of the data center, causing a short circuit and the later explosion.

The first signs that something was amiss with Google, came on August 8, when Internet users reported the crash of Google, in addition to failures in its Google Cloud, Maps and Google Calendar services, mainly in Mexico and the United States. Internet users reported that the platform had web indexing problems, including search results out of the index and with incorrect dates.

During this crash, users reported that when trying to perform any search, the Google portal displayed the following warning: 'Server error. We're sorry, but it appears that an internal server error has occurred while processing the request. Our engineers have been notified and are working to resolve the problem. Please try again later'

Twitter gets hacked trying to prevent a hacking…

But Google is not the only one recently having mayor technical issues, Twitter reported a "possible security breach" this past August 5th.

And although at the beginning the platform wasn't very vocal about the detail of this 'security breach' now it has been made official that it was, indeed, a hacking. And a massive one with some sources like BleepingComputer claiming that over 5,4 million Twitter accounts got compromised.

The same source, alongside a note published by the Financial Times yesterday, report that the hacking happened during a routinary 'anti-hacking exercise' conducted by Twitter alongside HackerOne, a white hat hacker company that allows big internet companies to connect with a network of hackers to test their security systems.

So far, Twitter has not revealed what measures will take to prevent this in the future, what will happened with the accounts affected or what information - in detail - was actually hacked.
