Online shopping is certainly here to stay, including cross-border e-commerce throughout the
European marketplace. This record growth in e-commerce is visible in both small and large
markets throughout Europe, and while COVID-19 has fueled much of the recent uptick,
experts predict this trend will not reverse. It’s apparent that buying online is becoming “the
new normal” for European consumers: 71% of the population bought online in 2020, up from

66% in 2019 and 64% in 2018 .
With consumers making their way back to the high street,
one would expect to see significant declines in e-commerce
traffic. Yet, data from Similarweb shows that e-commerce
in Portugal has grown by 35% compared to the same time
last year. The Netherlands has shown a 12% growth rate
during this same time. These double-digit growth trends
demonstrate the potential of these markets to companies
looking to expand their businesses. Using the Similarweb
platform, we identified the top ten e-commerce companies in

their backyards. Among the market’s top 10 fastest-growing
websites, six specialise in either garden furniture (like
exterioo.nl, up 264% month-over-month, and keessmit.nl,
up 128%) or flowers and plants (like tuinflora.com, up 107%,
