Depending on the threshold, most online shoppers in France expect their online order to be shipped for free. One in three online shoppers in France expect all of their online orders to be shipped for free, regardless of the order value.

There are many factors that decide whether an online shopper will place an order or not. One of these factors is the cost of shipping. Offering free delivery is a popular way to attract customers. Many online retailers have lured customers into their online shops by offering free delivery. However, most e-commerce companies cannot offer free delivery forever. It is simply too expensive. As a result, there are still many shoppers who will leave an online store when there is no free delivery available.

French shoppers expect free delivery

34% of online shoppers in France expect free shipping for all orders. 29% expect free shipping for orders with a value of €20 or more. In addition, 26% expect free shipping for order with a value of €50 or more and 6% for €100 or more. Only 5% do not expect free delivery at any order value.

Older shoppers are less prepared to pay for shipping

Differences within the age groups can also be seen when it comes to expectations of free delivery. The older shopper in France is less likely to accept shipping costs. Online shoppers in their 20s are mostly prepared to pay additional fees for shipping at least up to a certain order value. Only 28% of French online shoppers between 20-29 years of age expect free delivery for all orders. This share constantly increases with the age of the online shoppers to hit the highest percentage in the oldest age group: Among respondents aged 60 or older, 45% expect all their orders online to be delivered without any additional costs, regardless of the product value.
