DHL Parcel has invested more than £17.5 million to increase its network capacity. After a year in which the logistics company has dealt with 40% more parcels, reflecting the current fast growth in e-commerce. The carrier is doubling its footprint and the number of parcels that it can process. DHL Parcel moves five sites in locations that are strategically important for the company.
A new £7.5 million, 85,000 square foot facility recently opened in Eastleigh. It is double the size of its previous parcel handling operation in Fareham, which is moving to the new site. In addition, the company has also opened a new 79,000 square foot facility in Sheffield. This facility is three times of the size of its existing sites in the area and will handle up to 20,000 parcels a day.
Furthermore, new facilities have also opened in Lincoln, Norwich and Perth. All fitted with the latest sorting equipment in order to improve operational efficiency.
Peter Fuller, Chief Executive of DHL Parcel UK, says: “The global pandemic has driven huge uplift in e-commerce and accelerated our network upgrade plans. The new infrastructure will improve our parcel handling capabilities enabling us to support our customers’ ongoing e-commerce growth.”
