MangoFashion retailer Mango introduced new production procedures for its SS19 jeans collection. The company has already succeeded in having 38% sustainable characteristics in their jeans collection and is launching its new committed collection this season. With this collection, the fashion retailer tries to increase its sustainable characteristics to 50%.

Due to the new techniques in the production of its SS19 season jeans, Mango managed to reduce water consumption by up to 10 litres per garment. For models such as Boy and Straight, water consumption has been decreased by up to 16.5 litres.

The fashion retailer analysed the volume of water used in their standard production for a pair of jeans. It noticed that cotton production and finishing processes account for 90% of water consumption.

ECOWASH

To make the reduction of water usage happen Mango used the ECOWASH technology, introduced by the company Jeanologia. The fashion retailer has been encouraged by the Better Cotton Initiative (BCI) in garments to make use of sustainable cotton farming techniques. These techniques reduce the consumption of water and chemicals and guarantees workers’ health and safety. Mango expects 50% of its jeans production to be sustainable for the forthcoming AW2019 season.
