Dutch Startup Sparqle Raises €1.5M to Scale Emission-Free Delivery for E-commerce

Amsterdam-based startup Sparqle has secured €1.5 million in fresh funding to accelerate the development of its emission-free delivery infrastructure for modern e-commerce. The round includes backing from the European Union and will support the company’s expansion into additional European cities.

The funding comes at a time when the logistics industry is under increasing pressure to reduce emissions and meet stricter sustainability regulations. As e-commerce volumes continue to rise, last-mile delivery has become one of the most environmentally challenging parts of the supply chain.

Sparqle aims to address this challenge by building a delivery network designed specifically for a zero-emission urban future.

Building a Sustainable Delivery Network

Founded in 2022 by Tim van Alphen and Ruurd Tjeerdema, Sparqle is developing a logistics ecosystem that connects e-commerce brands with emission-free shipping options. The company combines proprietary software, a rider app, and a fleet of electric cargo bikes and electric vehicles to optimize delivery routes and reduce environmental impact.

This model allows retailers to integrate sustainable delivery directly into their operations while maintaining efficiency and reliability. The platform focuses particularly on urban last-mile deliveries, where congestion and pollution are major concerns.

The company is currently active in the Netherlands, Belgium, and France and plans to expand further across Europe with the new capital.

Delivery as a Critical Customer Experience Touchpoint

Sparqle’s founders argue that delivery is often overlooked in the overall online shopping experience. While e-commerce platforms have improved speed, personalization, and transparency, the final step of the transaction can still undermine customer satisfaction.

According to the company, delivery is the only physical interaction between an online brand and its customers. A failed delivery can quickly damage trust, while a seamless and branded delivery experience can strengthen customer loyalty.

For this reason, Sparqle positions delivery not simply as a logistical function but as an extension of the brand experience.

Technology and Zero-Emission Operations

The startup’s technology platform integrates directly with retailer systems to manage deliveries efficiently. Through route optimization and real-time data, Sparqle can coordinate a fleet composed primarily of electric cargo bikes and electric vehicles.

This approach aims to reduce CO₂ emissions while maintaining high delivery reliability in dense urban environments. The platform also provides detailed environmental reporting, helping retailers track emissions and comply with sustainability reporting requirements such as the EU’s Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive.

The company has already attracted notable clients including Decathlon and Ricoh, demonstrating the growing demand for sustainable logistics solutions among major brands.

Positioned for Europe’s Green Logistics Transition

Sparqle’s strategy aligns with broader regulatory and market trends across Europe. Many cities are introducing low-emission or zero-emission zones that restrict polluting delivery vehicles, while retailers are increasingly under pressure to reduce their supply-chain footprint.

At the same time, investors are directing capital toward logistics technologies that can support the continued growth of e-commerce without increasing environmental impact.

By combining sustainable vehicles, route optimization software, and integrated reporting capabilities, Sparqle aims to position itself as a foundational infrastructure provider for the next generation of European e-commerce logistics.

With the new funding round, the company plans to scale its network, expand geographically, and further develop its technology platform as it builds what its founders describe as the backbone of future-focused e-commerce delivery.
