Alibaba Group started to allow merchants who are trading on AliExpress to offer their shoppers free returns in eight countries. When the pilot is successful Alibaba Group might rollout this functionality of the Chinese marketplace on a wider scale.
The pilot programme will see merchants selling in the United Kingdom, the United States, Canada, Spain, Germany, France, Russia and Australia debuting the service to offer to their shoppers. With this service, sellers on the Chinese marketplace are now able to surprise and delight their shoppers with the offer to return and/or refund their goods at no cost, as a lot of other marketplace service providers do.
If a merchant offers free returns, a consumer in the eligible market will see a 'free return'-sign next to the merchants' listings participating in the pilot. Not all product categories qualify for free returns. Electronics, jewellery, shoes and cosmetics are included in the pilot.
Online shoppers can claim a free return or refund within fifteen days after receiving an item. A refund then can be expected with a three-day working period, depending on the payment service the customer used to purchase the product. According to AlixExpress' policy, goods must be returned in a new condition, excluding products over $1,000 as well as products such as mobile phones, underwear, food and customised merchandise.
