Panatech, an online startup from Rwanda, launched a new online marketplace. The e-commerce marketplace is called Iduka Online and allows users to buy and sell goods in various categories. Amongst other, categories that are included are electronics, fashion, sports, auto parts and furniture/home decor.
The official launch of the platform took place in May 2019. The Rwandan platform helps local sellers to expand their online business. With a platform and Android app, sellers are connected to buyers who might have an interest in their products. While the platform is in infancy, in terms of visitors, it currently sees around 5500 monthly users a month, reports Disrupt Africa.
The Iduka Online platform is co-founded by Pascal Twizerimana and Uwase Ariane Nadette. The two met at university and worked together on a variety of projects. The reason to start with the online marketplace platform is that many small Rwandese merchants do not have the resources to advertise their products and create visibility to lure customers to their shops. The Iduka Online platform helps them realise this by connecting sellers to an online customer base. The platform makes money from a monthly subscription and delivery charges. After a challenging start, the project sees growth. Twizerimana comments to Disrupt Africa: “Our market right now is Rwanda, but we are planning to expand to the whole of East-Africa.”
