The Canadian company currently has its biggest popularity in the United States. 73.24% of all live websites are based in there. Let’s see where the company stands in the world and in Europe today.

What do they do?

Shopify is a Canadian provider of e-commerce software. The company was founded in 2004 but they officially started the company they are today in 2006: an e-commerce solution software company. Shopify operates with a subscription method with a transaction fee for companies who use the software.

Following the success of business, the company built an API and a popular app store. Ever since 2010, thanks to the launch of their mobile app, retailers have been able to manage their online shop via their phones.

In 2018, twelve years after the official launch of the company and its product, Shopify surpassed the impressive 1 billion dollar revenue mark. 2018 was a big year for the company, as their revenue grew by 59% since 2017.

Worldwide and in Europe

As of today, there are nearly 1.5 million Shopify e-commerce websites live. Although being a Canadian-based company, ‘only’ 34,454 of their e-commerce websites are live in Canada. Going south, into the United States, there are roughly 1.1 million Shopify websites as of today. The software has also clearly reached Oceania, roughly 43.000 websites are live in Australia already.

Looking at Shopify in Europe, there are a few significant countries. Behind the US being the number one, comes the United Kingdom, good for almost 60.000 websites and 3,9% of Shopify’s global coverage.
