European fashion marketplace Zalando collaborated with PostNord to open up to 50 private pick-up and drop-off points. The pilot is managed by Zalando’s Dutch partner, Homer. The pick-up and drop-off points will be located in residential areas in Aarhus and Copenhagen. Offering the new pick-up and drop-off points is meant to increase convenience for Zalando customers in Denmark. Customers will be able to select their preferred pick-up point or drop-off point during the checkout process on www.zalando.dk.
The private pick-up and drop-off points will be located typically in the customer’s neighbourhood, and the convenient opening hours (4 p.m. to 8 p.m.) mean customers will benefit from this daily. Stay-at-home parents, self-employed, entrepreneurs or retirees will operate almost 50 service points. This way they will earn an additional small monthly income.
Zalando orders will be bundled to fewer addresses and, as a result, there will be fewer but more efficient delivery routes. This new concept will contribute to reducing the environmental impact.
Zalando and PostNord have been collaborating in the Nordics already. They are now contributing to the pilot by delivering parcels to the new service points. PostNord has an existing country-wide network of parcel lockers and around 1300 manned service points. PostNord will also provide IT systems, and will be doing the communicating with the end users when the parcel is ready for pick up.
