At the occasion of the ‘Deliver One’ conference in Luxembourg this week, the European Commission has launched a new platform titled ‘Deliver in Europe’. The platform aims at increasing the accessibility of EU-wide operating delivery companies for SME businesses. SMEs will get access to delivery services of over 1000 suppliers in 28 EU countries and the platform will moreover equip them with tools to increase their bargaining power.

The organiser of Deliver One, Stéphane Tomczak, is hoping that the estimated 500,000 e-retailers across Europe will benefit from having access to information about delivery companies and that transparency will eventually result in more competitive prices. The ultimate aim is for 3,000 to 4,000 carriers, postal services and supply chain IT companies to sign up to the directory “which will allow e-retailers to find the most suitable solution for their needs” said Tomczak, reports Edelivery.net.

The platform is meant to facilitate the cross-border development of retailers and create a level playing field for SMEs with pan-european operations.
