SwipBoxIn Denmark, PostNord and Swipbox start with the rollout of an extra 2,000 parcel lockers across the Scandinavian country. Over the next six months, the Nærboks lockers will be installed, after which Danish consumers can pick up their parcels whenever they want.

Both companies decided to do the rollout after a successful pilot in Kolding and Sonderborg. Now, the whole Danish country will be introduced to the Nærboks parcel lockers. Peter Kjær Jensen, CEO of PostNord Denmark, commented: "We have tested the Nærboks parcel lockers in Kolding municipality and Sonderborg municipality. The citizens in both cities have really welcomed the parcel lockers, so we are ready to move forward and roll out the new parcel infrastructure across the country. By placing the parcel lockers close the where the Danes are and live, Nærboks will set the new standards for how easy and convenient parcel delivery can be. They are open day and night, exactly when the end-consumer will use it.

No electricity or internet

The parcel lockers will be placed on strategical locations, close to most consumers. The lockers require no electricity or internet connection, which makes them easy to set up. PostNord and Swipbox claim that all logistic providers are able to deliver parcels to the lockers. So, in addition to PostNord, DHL also delivers parcels through the Nærboks network. More carriers and last-mile service providers are likely to join.

10,000 lockers across Denmark

Initially, the rollout will feature 2,000 new parcel lockers. However, this is just the beginning. PostNord and Swipbox aim to set up a network in 10,000 lockers all over Denmark. In 2019, the roll-out will start in Copenhagen and Aarhus, followed by more cities in 2020.
