English last-mile delivery servicer provider Royal Mail adds another 87 electric vehicles to its fleet in London. Alongside, it improves its new charging infrastructure to one of its largest London distribution hubs.
The new vehicles that are added to the fleet include Mercedes-Benz eVito and Peugeot Partner vans. The vans have a loading capacity ranging from 3.7 to 6.3 cubic metres. They will operate from the Royal Mail distribution centre at Mount Pleasant. The project is planned to roll out over the next two months.
Royal Mail Fleet Director, Paul Gatti, comments: "As a company, we are committed to making changes to our operations that reduce our environmental impact while ensuring we continue to meet customer expectations. We are delighted that we can expand our fleet in London with more electric vehicles. This will allow the business to continue to deliver letters and parcels safely, efficiently and in the most environmentally friendly way possible as we continue to shift to low emission technologies."
Royal Mail is a participant in Optimise Prime. This program is funded in the UK and brings together private sector companies to test approaches to rolling out electric vehicles. Royal Mail's total fleet numbers are over 41.500. Earlier, in July 2019, the postal service provider already expanded its electric fleet. That time, it added 190 electric vans, also serving London and the South-East of the UK.
