German fashion platform Zalando has opened its third fulfilment centre in Poland. The new logistics location is meant to serve all of the online fashion platform’s markets. In total, Zalando now has two fulfilment centres in Poland serving Zalando’s customer base. It also has one logistics site taking care of its Lounge deliveries.
The new fulfilment centre, located near Lodz, will serve Zalando deliveries to customers from all markets. Focus markets are Poland, Germany, Austria and the Czech Republic. The logistics warehouse measures 130,000 m2. This makes the fulfilment centre is one of the biggest sites in Poland. It houses similar intralogistics as Zalando’s second Polish logistics centre near Szczecin.
Amongst the technical equipment, there are two five-story high “pick towers” that store several million items at once. The centre is managed by external provider DHL Supply Chain. They already employ around 1,200 people for the operational work on-site. In the long term, DHL Supply Chain aims to employ approximately 2,500 workers. This, in order to further ramp up the fulfilment centre.
Focus on local trust
Neil Bennett, Director Warehouse Operations at Zalando, says, “Our logistics network continues to grow in step with Zalando’s overall growth. Now, with Głuchów (Lodz) supporting us in fulfilling our customers’ needs, we are delighted to have the site joining our setup. Together with our partner DHL, we are certain to continue delivering the top-notch service that our customers know and expect from us.”
The factors that determined Głuchów as a location in Poland have been primarily high employment potential, good geographical location and infrastructure with a direct connection to the expressways. A particular impact on the decision for Głuchów has been the vital cooperation based on mutual trust and respect with the region.
