1eTail has published their annual report about the online market in Germany. Insights show that customer demands are evolving quicker than many retailers can keep up. With Germany, the biggest market in Europe in terms of purchasing power and internet use, leading the way in innovation within the retail space. The latest report by eTail was conducted by interviewing 100 retail giants based in Germany to get the inside scoop on the latest trends affecting online commerce.

Roughly 52 million people in Germany bought something online in 2016 – that’s 73% of Germans over the age of fifteen according to Statistisches Bundesamt, the federal statistics office. During the previous five years, Germany’s pool of internet users has grown by more than a third in the previous five years. The hugely increased demand from internet users has led to a scramble amongst retailers to consolidate their position in the market, meet the enhanced expectations of their customers and implement the most advanced analytical software and technology. To do this, retailers are looking at a number of emerging trends in German e-commerce and are asking themselves questions about what they are doing in the marketplace to stay one step ahead of the competition.
