Amazon Business has launched a new feature called "Prefer Small and Medium Businesses" to boost the sales of these types of businesses.

This functionality enables customers to make targeted purchases from small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) selling on Amazon Business.

This feature enables procurement professionals to search for and identify sellers with fewer than 250 employees and less than €50 million in revenue when purchasing supplies on Amazon Business.

As the company explains, SMEs are a fundamental pillar of the economy, accounting for more than 60% of employment and Gross Value Added (GVA) in Spain. However, a study by Amazon Business reveals that many small and medium-sized business owners are still determining the best way to expand their businesses online.

At the same time, business customers in Spain who shop on Amazon Business have increased their spending on SMEs by more than 75% year-on-year, demonstrating that increasing purchases from small and medium-sized businesses is a strategic priority for large organizations.

Amazon Business wants to help small and medium business reach multinationals

Small and medium-sized businesses selling on Amazon Business range from regional suppliers to small family-owned businesses that can supply enterprise customers with what they need for their business. For example, an SME selling bespoke workplace safety equipment is now more visible to multinational companies, increasing the likelihood that they will get a larger order that will help their business grow.

"We are excited that this new feature will enable our customers to address two of the challenges they face today," says Diana Deguil Illana, chief commercial officer at Amazon Business. "First, e-commerce targeting purchases made by businesses offers significant growth opportunities, but SMEs have struggled to sell their products to multinationals, often due to a lack of resources or knowledge to reach them. At the same time, we know from our enterprise customers that they want to buy more from small and medium-sized enterprises to support their strategic sourcing objectives, such as diversifying their supplier base and mitigating risk," he adds.

From 2020 to 2022, he says, Amazon has invested more than €20 billion "in helping European SMEs actively participate in the European single market and international export markets, including more than €8 billion during 2022 alone."
