France's e-commerce sector, valued at $84.32 billion in 2024, is expected to grow to $120.99 billion by 2029. France currently has over 50 million online customers, and it is expected to achieve at least a 17% increase in online sales year over year (2023-2024). The results come from a recent Statista survey and showcase the good health of French e-commerce.

Ranking third after Germany and the United Kingdom, e-commerce users in France were estimated at over 51 million in 2023. Also, 52% of French consumers prefer to shop online via a unique platform rather than visiting several stores.

The average online transaction in 2022 was around $68 (€65), and in 2024, it is expected to reach an average ticket of 80€. Also, online shoppers tend to shop more frequently, approximately 54 times a year, for an average of $3,685 (€3,500) in 2024.

France's Top 10 Online Stores

Amazon.fr is leading the French e-commerce market, with e-commerce net sales exceeding six billion U.S. dollars in 2023.

Shein.com is second, with 2.45 billion dollars in e-commerce net sales generated in France that year. Veepee.fr is third, with over 1.6 billion dollars in e-commerce net sales.

In fourth place is auchan.fr with 1.46 billion dollars, fifth is boulanger.com with 1.417 billion euros, sixth is coursesu.com with 1.29 billion euros, and the final four are apple.fr (apple.com) with 1.43 billion euros, e.leclerc with 1.14 billion euros, leroymerlin.fr with 1.01 billion euros, and cdiscount.com with 0.9 billion euros.

Under this scenario, it is clear that Amazon France will remain the leader for the foreseeable future, as it easily doubles—and even triples—the nearest competitor, Shein. Still, France hasn't felt the impact of Temu and the new Chinese marketplaces, which are fast becoming Amazon's direct competition in the rest of Europe.
