Amazon.de by far the biggest in Germany

As in previous years, a new research published by EHI and Statista has revealed that Amazon.de is by far the biggest webshop of Germany. As the total turnover has reached 8,8 billion euro in 2017, it remains almost three times as big as the number two, OTTO, which realized a turnover of almost 3 billion euro. These differences are almost in line with the previous year, and in the near future, it does not seem to change too much.

In general, there are three companies in Germany that realized an online turnover of more than one billion euro. Besides Amazon and OTTO, Zalando has reached this milestone as well.

It must be noted that the researches have taken turnover gained from services into the numbers as well. This means that, besides the sales of products, the figures of Amazon also include turnover from services like Amazon Prime, audible.de and more. Also, the turnover realized in the Dutch market – more than 100 million euro – is taken into account. When we take these turnover figures into account, the total turnover of Amazon reaches close to 15 billion euro.
