Zalando grows to 24 million users in the first quarter

Afbeelding Zalando artikelOn May 8th, Zalando published its quarterly figures. These show that the number of active users of Zalando increased with 3.5 million users in the past quarter bringing the total to 23.9 million active users.

Users of the webshop placed an average of four orders in the past twelve months. Zalando says to have reached a new milestone with these numbers. In the first quarter of this year, 25.4 million orders were placed at the webshop.

The website was visited 713 million times in the first quarter, an increase of 15 percent in comparison to the first quarter of last year. Users visited Zalando mainly via mobile devices. The share of mobile grew 7.8 percent this year and is now about 76.6 percent of the total.

Revenue growth
Zalando also gained 22 percent more revenue in the past quarter. The total revenue amounted to almost 1.2 billion euros, with an operating result of 0.4 million euros.

According to the quarterly figures, the majority of sales still comes from the German-speaking market – Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. The German-speaking market is responsible for 552 million euro revenue, which is 50.5 percent of the total. The rest of Europe accounts for 541 million euro, about 49.5 percent of the total revenue.

In addition to the existing product range, Zalando introduced a new product category in the first quarter of this year, successfully launching a beauty category to the German webshop. Zalando started the category with over 4,000 products from 130 different cosmetics and skin care brands.
