Amazon Anti-piracy policies have identified, seized and eliminated more than 15 million counterfeit products worldwide in 2024, which is eight million more than in 2023, preventing them from harming consumers or being resold elsewhere in the retail supply chain, according to the 5th edition of its 'Brand Protection Report'.

Specifically, the US company has invested more than $1 billion (about €924 million) and has thousands of employees dedicated to this mission. Since its launch in 2020, the Fake Crimes Unit of Amazon has prosecuted more than 24,000 offenders through various lawsuits and complaints to law enforcement agencies.

Amazon anti-piracy efforts

This figure confirms how the company's efforts to identify and dismantle organizations dedicated to the sale of counterfeit products are yielding results and having a positive impact worldwide: “Our customer education and protection provides a safe and trusted shopping experience. In addition to proactively protecting our customers and the store itself from any offenders, we also provide information to consumers to protect them and complement this work through our partnerships with the public and private sectors.”

The report shows its commitment to working alongside brands to eradicate counterfeits and protect consumers. In 2024, Amazon launched an application programming interface (API) for its Transparency serialization program, thus automating the process for brands to enroll in it. Transparency verified the more than 2.5 billion product units. In addition, 88,000 brands worldwide have registered, including Fortune 500 companies, global brands, start-ups and small and medium-sized enterprises.

AI to protect intellectual property

Through continuous investment in Artificial Intelligence, Amazon has reported that it has improved its proactive controls, “automating and enhancing our intellectual property protection and counterfeit detection systems.” On this point, they have explained, proactive controls are capable of blocking more than 99% of suspicious listings, even before a brand can detect and report them. While the number of products available for sale on the marketplace has continued to grow since 2020, infringement notices filed by brands have decreased by 35%.

“We are proud of the progress we have made in preventing counterfeits in the store. This has required significant innovation and perseverance, and would not be possible without the partnerships we have been able to build with brands, organizations, legislators, law enforcement and other relevant actors. We remain committed to these ongoing advances and will not rest until we reduce counterfeiting to zero," Amazon has said.
