ItalyThe competition authority in Italy announced that they will start an investigation. It is regarding Amazon Italia’s dominance abuse in the e-commerce logistics industry. The company is now facing a globally increasing regulatory examination.

According to the watchdog, they will investigate five of Amazon group’s companies. They are Amazon EU, Amazon Italia Services, Amazon Italia Logistica, Amazon Europe Core and Amazon Services Europe. In a press release, the Italian authority mentioned to specifically consider whether Amazon is granting third-party retailers with its own logistics service an advantage over other retailers that are not involved in the service.

Doubts

Margrethe Vestager, European Competition Commissioner, told CNBC that the European Union could issue a formal investigation into Amazon. This in regard to the usage of its data on its third-party retailers. Elizabeth Warren and Richard Blumenthal, lawmakers in the United States, have expressed doubts about Amazon for anti-trust practices as well.

According to Amazon’s spokesperson, the company is ‘fully co-operating with the Authority’. The Italian competition authority Antitrust said that it is very likely that the investigation will last a year.
