Amazon is by far the biggest e-commerce organisation in Germany. Their turnover is three times bigger than number two’s OTTO. Amazon is almost eight times bigger than number three: Zalando. The top ten is completed by Notebooksbilliger.de, Bon Prix, Media Markt, Cybersport, Conrad, Tchibo and Alternate.
Research by the EHI Retail Institute and Statista shows that Amazon has a real dominant position in the market, being responsible for 30 percent of the total German e-commerce market in physical products. A noticeable fact is that the entire top-3 have a common fact: all three of them are, besides a web shop, a shopping platform as well, where third party sellers are able to sell their goods in exchange for a commission.
Together, Amazon, OTTO and Zalando account for a turnover of 12 billion euro, which is 44% of the total value of the entire Top 100 altogether.
